What strikes me, as a white, Jewish (non-practicing) woman and writer, is how indoctrinated I was growing up, not questioning the lack of diversity in my dolls, books, movies, shows. No POC, always Christian, nothing out of place.
I was acutely aware of being the only Jewish kid in my class, yet nobody else knew that by looking at me. I'm embarrassed by this lack of awareness to what my fellow black and brown students felt. Thank you for sharing your truth, Vanessa.
