Hi ya, Smillew - as a writer (7 books) and book marketer, who teaches writers how to use Twitter effectively, I kindly and respectfully disagree with your concepts. Marketing isn't shameless self-promo if you're doing it correctly. You can read my many articles here or follow me at https://twitter.com/badredheadmedia @BadRedheadMedia to learn more.

The key or 'art' is building relationships with readers. Using the real estate Twitter gives us (e.g., the header, pinned tweet, bio). Social media in general gives a pretty low half-life and conversion rate to sale, regardless of product, so the goal is to connect with our end-user (readers), not only other writers, which is what hashtags memes like #writerslift do.

Come on over to the bright side :). Oh, and I run a weekly #BookMarketingChat on Wednesdays, 6 pm pst/9 pst est (monthly for summer). Tons of great guests (or just me sometimes) sharing tons of great tips just for writers. Hope this all helps! Take care.
