I don't even know where to begin with the issues at play here, but I'll try.

1) Internalized misogyny by women toward other women.

2) Why is the end-all-be-all goal in life to get married for a woman?

3) What does Beth think? What's her perspective on any of this?

4) Why are we measuring her looks in comparison to other more 'stunning' women he's dated? Ugh.

5) The disturbing objectification of Beth makes me want to vomit.

In your attempts to correlate these relationship traits as positive and existing in Beth, you've somehow made her into a doormat who exists to cater to the whims of Alex, who honestly needs therapy to learn some responsibility for his own emotional well-being.

It's not Beth's job to "fix" him. My cats are more responsible for their well-being than Alex.

If my cats can do it, a man can do it.
