People use Twitter for a variety of reasons. I understand your point, yet I feel it's somewhat shortsighted.
As an author and entrepreneur, I've found it to be crucial to connect with my reader base and buyer demographic.
I teach Twitter to writers and I always say that Twitter is what you make it. I don't engage in political or religious discussions because that's not a helpful strategy to grow.
Now, with Twitter Spaces, I can connect with a specific community - whether that's for my weekly #SexAbuseChat (as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, this is an important advocacy option) and #BookMarketingChat to help writers up their marketing skills.
Not being on Twitter, or any social media, is a choice. Marketing is a huge part of publishing, and not connecting with our readers is a mistake. #BookTwitter is HUGE for word of mouth. That said, TikTok and IG are also great options.
